Civil Military Balance

Just saw the press report that US Ambassador met with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif. In the meeting there was no one present from the civilian government. This is where the problem lies. There is no understanding and lack of trust between civ-mil about our objectives of foreign policy and bilateral relations. Gen Raheel is acting as a defacto Foreign Minister which means security concerns are overriding all other considerations. By focusing on non-security functions military is over stretching itself which could result in lapses in protecting our borders. PM must appoint a full time foreign minister and hold multi-tier consultations to review and rewrite our foreign policy approach and objectives especially relations with our neighbours.
