A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) fraudulently recruited 130 policemen in Hyderabad Training Branch extorting a whopping Rs 90 million from candidates, a private news channel reported on Wednesday.

According to details, DSP Nisar Brohi received Rs 0.7 million each from 130 candidates, handing them fake job cards and appointment letters for Hyderabad Training Branch. The official collected Rs 90 million overall through fake recruitment.

The massive fraud was exposed when newly-recruited cops reached Police Head Office. Upon checking the records, it was revealed that the appointment letters handed to recruits were not genuine.

Sources said that ADIG Fida Shah was also involved in the scam in 2014.

A committee comprising top police officials AD Khawaja, Sanaullah Abbasi abd Naeem Sheikh has kicked off investigations into the matter.

On the other hand, 1,800 personnel in Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) have been sacked over fake recruitment. These included 13 Sindh Police personnel killed while on duty in different incidents of terrorism and target killings.

Out of these 1,800 personnel, 103 belong to Karachi, while others hail from different parts of the province.
