A cleanup operation was launched at the Adiala Jail on Wednesday and the authorities recovered 4G devices, mobile phones and other prohibited items from the prisoners.

According to jail authorities, the operation was launched by the jail administration with the help of security agencies after complaints that phone calls were being made from the jail by the prisoners for extortion purposes.

The jail authorities with the help of security agencies verified that the threatening calls were made from the jail.

Sources said that a thorough investigation would be made to find out how the telephones and other prohibited items reached the inmates. A possibility of the involvement of jail’s junior staff was also not ruled out.

It is worth mentioning here that supply of prohibited items to prisoners is a common practice in jails across the country. The prisoners pay the staff and get any item of their choice. Unfortunately, checking of the jail staff at the entry points is faulty. The staff members who indulge in smuggling of items inside also bribe the security staff.
