Acting on intelligence reports, the Punjab government has issued a security alert to educational institutions in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan divisions and ordered them to ensure foolproof security arrangements.
According to the Home Department, the banned Tehreek-e-Tailban Pakistan (TTP) is planning to target educational institutions in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan divisions, with the Bahauddin Zakariya University and Nishtar Medical College on their hit lit.
The Home Department has, through a letter to the district administrations, ordered extreme vigilance and foolproof security measures at all levels.
The letter states that Taliban commander Mullah Umar Mansoor alias Naray has dispatched six suicide bombers while TTP’s Sajna group has sent 11 suicide bombers to carry out attacks in Punjab.
The Home Department has asked the district administrations to adopt appropriate security measures to avoid any untoward incident and to convene district Intelligence committee meetings on a regular basis.
