Sindh Minister of Finance Murad Ali Shah and Adviser to CM Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday held a meeting with former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), a private news channel reported.

According to the channel, both the leaders belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) held a meeting with Dr Asim, in violation of law, at a special ward of JPMC, for more than half an hour where his case was discussed in detail.

Earlier, Senator Saeed Ghani, PPP senior leader Faryal Talpur, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and Sharmeela Faroqi have also reportedly met with the former petroleum minister, who is facing inquiries over corruption worth Rs 462 billion and terrorists’ facilitation.

It was said these figures do not even take prior permission by the court for meeting Dr Hussain.

According to the prosecution, Dr Asim had misused his authority as a federal minister, in collusion of other accused, illegally curtailed gas to the agriculture sector to benefit a particular group associated with the fertilizer industry. The ex-minister has rejected all the charges against him.

In February 2016, the accountability court hearing a corruption case against Dr Asim had sent him to prison while seeking the investigation report.

On November 30, NAB had sought permission from the anti-terrorism court (ATC), where cases against Dr Asim were being tried, to question the former petroleum minister in connection with graft references.

Dr Asim Hussain was first arrested on August 26, 2015.
