The Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution dissenting from United States (US) stance to continue targeting potential threats in Pakistan.
The resolution was moved today after Department of State stated to continue drone strikes in Pakistan. The stance was cleared after Sunday’s drone attack in Balochistan’s Nushki that allegedly killed Afghan Taliban leader, Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.
Mansoor was reportedly killed in a US drone strike in Naushki district, over 200 kilometres away from Quetta, Balochistan.
The resolution was tabled by Opposition Leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed with the consent of the treasury benches.
“The US drone strike in Pakistan that claims to have killed Mullah Mansour is a question for the sovereignty of Pakistan. This is an attack on the autonomy and independence of Pakistan,” the resolution said.
“This house demands from the federal government that US ambassador in Pakistan should be summoned to foreign office and the government should record its protest,” it added.
It also demanded that the government should ensure the United States refrain from carrying out such attacks inside Pakistan’s territory in future.
Tell the Punjab Assembly that when Pakistan stops giving safe haven to Taliban…then drone strikes will cease…
