A review meeting on Karachi Hyderabad Motorway M-9, Lyari Express Way (LEW) and other development projects of Karachi was held on Monday, which was presided over by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Chairman National Highway Authority Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Principal Secretary to Governor Sindh Muhammad Hussain Syed, Director General Frontier Works Organisation Major General Muhammad Afzal, Secretary Local Government Noor Muhammad Leghari, Commissioner Karachi Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Municipal Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioners of Karachi Central and West and other relevant officers.
Governor Sindh directed to accelerate the pace of work and completing the project by December this year in order to ensure its maximum benefits to Karachiites. The purpose of continuous meetings of all stakeholders was to ensure prompt removal of all bottlenecks in the way of development projects in their presence, he added.
Dr Ebad said that it was very unfortunate that work on this project of vital importance for Karachiites remained in limbo due to various reasons for a longtime. As work on this crucial express way has started after a gap of 8 years, all stake holders must ensure that it is completed as soon as possible, he added. Governor Sindh said that there was now a dispute of right-of-way of only 1.1 kilometers and it is hoped that it would be resolved by next week through court. He lauded the timely release of funds and liabilities by National Highway Authority (NHA) and commended the pledge of the chairman of the authority to provide necessary funds when needed, which would help in completion of this project within stipulated time.
He directed Deputy Commissioners of West and Central to maintain close liaison with FWO authorities and keep them updated on the matter of remaining right-of -way. The initiation of work of Karachi-Hyderabad motor way M-9 was also very commendable as this 136 km state of the art motor way would provide updated and modern travelling facilities to commuters, he added.
