Parents have voiced strong protest over lack of beds available for ailing children in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad.
According to media reports, a day before parents protested against the non-availability of beds for sick children, the doctors and the paramedical staff allegedly misbehaved with them. In retaliation, the family members of the ailing children locked the doctors up in the wards.
PIMS Vice Chancellor professor Dr Javed Ikram took notice of the incident. He assured the parents that beds will be provided to the sick children. The family members of the children called off their protest afterwards.
When contacted, Dr Javed Ikram said that only 150 beds are available in the children hospital and only 20 beds are available in the isolation ward. He said two children have been placed on each bed, therefore, such problems are rising.
