Heavy rain kills 7 orange line workers in Lahore

At least seven laborers, working on the Orange Line train project, were killed while four were injured in the provincial capital as heavy rain continued to lash the city on Tuesday.

The wall of an under construction godown at Quaid-e-Azam interchange fell over laborers. Two of the laborers died on the spot while five others succumbed to their wounds at the hospital.

Rescue teams arrived at the scene and recovered the injured from the rubble with the help of machinery and manpower.

The deceased were identified as Irfan, Maqbool, Usman, Arshad, Zulfiqar, Nadeem and Nasir.

The wounded persons were shifted to the nearest hospital for medical assistance.

The meteorological department recorded 25.4 mm rainfall in the city while winds blew at a speed of 74 kilometer per hour.

A rain spell in most of the Punjab including Faisalabad, Lahore, Jhang and Chiniot broke the intense heat spell.

According to the met department forecast, no rain is expected today.
