A senior leader of Afghan Taliban and shadow governor for southern Helmand province has reportedly been killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan Marjah district.

Media reports said Mullah Manan was Taliban’s shadow governor for southern Helmand province.

The airstrike was carried out late on Sunday night targeting Mullah Manan and his fighters.

Provincial security chief General Agha Noor Kentoz said Mullah Manan was initially injured in the attack and later scrummed to his wounds.

The airstrike was carried out by Afghan forces as part of Khanjar operations which were launched against Taliban militants six days ago in Marjah.

Afghan officials said Manan was a close associate of Mullah Akhtar Mansour.

However, the claim is yet to be officially confirmed by the Pakistani government.
