The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Captain (r) Mohammad Safdar on June 1, for concealing assets of his wife Maryam Nawaz, in his nomination papers.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed had filed a petition against Safdar last week with the ECP.

The petitioner had submitted that Capt (r) Safdar had not mentioned in his nomination papers the ownership of foreign properties of his wife as revealed in the Panama Papers.

The petitioner had appealed to the ECP to disqualify Safdar and launch a criminal proceeding against him for ‘lying’ and ‘concealing’ his assets.
