Ch Nisar directs FIA to submit plan for reorganisation

Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to submit short, medium and long term plan for reorganisation of the agency within a set timeline.

The minister also approved in principal a proposal by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration for establishment of new sectors in the federal capital to cater to the needs of the low-income federal government employees.

The minister was chairing a meeting attended by the secretary interior, chairman NADRA, director general Immigration and Passport, ICT administration and other senior officials of Interior Ministry.

To eliminate land grabbing in the city, the minister directed the ICT administration for establishment of a special cell to check land grabbing and address the grievances of land owners in the federal capital.

A proposal of hosting executive members committee meeting of Geneva based International Civil Defence Organisation in Islamabad in 2017 was also approved by the interior minister.

“Establish a special cell comprising additional deputy commissioner revenue and SP of Islamabad police and officials of revenue department to address land grabbing issue in the capital city,” a spokesman for the Interior Ministry quoted Khan as saying.

The minister said “innocent and poor owners of the land in the ICT rural areas are hoodwinked by land mafia on rates far lower than the original market rates and this practice must be stopped.”

The minister said that he would fully support all schemes and housing societies aimed at providing residential facility to the low income government employees.

The interior minister said that he had no objection to land acquisition in the federal city if both the parties are mutually agreed and the land is purchased at market rates.

Meanwhile, with the upcoming month of Ramadan, the interior minister directed the ICT administration to ensure reasonable prices of daily kitchen items for the consumers and speed up anti-adulteration campaign in the city.

The director general Immigration and Passport and chairman NADRA briefed the minister over the progress of suspension of CNICs and passports of proclaimed offenders and absconders.

The chairman NADRA informed the meeting that the authority is in process of making a centralised data bank of proclaimed offenders and absconders.

He  said that so far NADRA has received a list of 7,678 proclaimed offenders and absconders from FIA, ICT Police and Anti-Narcotics Force.

The director general Civil Defence informed the minister that Pakistan’s membership of the executive body of International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) has been extended for term of another four years the by the Geneva based organisation.

The director general of Civil Defence said hosting of executive body meeting would contribute to the soft image of Pakistan and would help in highlighting its positive role in achieving the overall goals and objectives of ICDO.
