PPP keeping mum over Wadera’s shoe-biting verdict

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has reportedly opted to keep mum over the issue of a jirga held by one of its local leaders in which two real brothers were ordered to apologise to the jirga head while biting their shoes.

Sources said that high-level efforts are being made to save the skin of PPP leader Muhammad Bux Mubejo, who had held an illegal jirga and ordered two real brothers, whose donkey cart had collided with his jeep, to bite their shoes. They said the accused was booked by local police, but not for holding the jirga illegally.

The sources said that Mubejo was arrested by the police and a FIR lodged against him, but surprisingly the police did not mention the holding of the illegal jirga in the FIR. They further said that PPP leaders and local police officers were trying to hush up the matter to save the skin of the “wadera”.

Mubejo had held a jirga at his bungalow in Phul village and given a demeaning punishment to two real brothers in the presence of hundreds of villagers. The brothers, Suhail and Ayaz, who are farm laboures by profession, apologised to the wadera for their mistake and had to obey the order of the jirga.

A footage showing the two real brothers being disgusted by the jirga went viral on social media and political circles strongly condemned the PPP leader for his inhuman demeanour.

The other day the nabbed wadera was presented before the court of first civil judge Abdul Hafeez Chachar which rejected his bail plea and sent him to jail on a 14-day remand.

Meanwhile, relatives of Suhail and Ayaz have claimed that the police are not ready to file their FIR and they were trying to save the accused.

In Karachi, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had held a big demo in front of the Karachi Press Club to condemn the illegal jirga.

The PPP is shying away to give its official statement over the issue.

However, citizens and civil society have demanded stern action against the Mujebo for holding an illegal jirga. They say that the ruling party was tarnishing the image of Sindh by protecting a wadera who had committed an anti-human crime.

As per Supreme Court orders, the holding of jirgas has been prohibited by the Supreme Court.
