Hollywood actor Robin Wright who plays Claire Underwood from House of Cards has just joined the league of women fighting for equal pay in Hollywood.
She recently had to fight for the same pay as her male co-star Kevin Spacey.
While addressing the Rockefeller Foundation on Tuesday, the 50-year-old said, “I was like, ‘I want to be paid the same as Kevin,’” reports Huffington Post.
Robin, who also serves as producer and is an occasional director for the series, further revealed that she threatened to go public if she didn’t get paid as much as her male co-star.
“It was a perfect paradigm. There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarch are equal. And they are in House of Cards,” she said.
“I was looking at statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalized on that moment. I was like, ‘You better pay me or I’m going to go public.’ And they did,” she added.
Kevin, who plays the character of President Frank Underwood, was reportedly getting paid $9 million for the third season and according to Forbes, Robin earned around $5.5 million that same year.
Robin’s character got more projection in the fourth season that debuted in March.
A-listers including Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron have previously been strong advocates of pay equity as well.
