Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno has been defended by his old manager Unai Emery after last night’s Europa League final.
The Spaniard has been widely criticised for a poor individual display at the back for Liverpool, who were beaten 3-1 by his old side Sevilla in Basel.
Moreno was badly at fault for Sevilla’s equaliser, and also could have stayed closer to his man for the third goal scored by Coke.
However, Emery does not share the view that the 23-year-old is a bad defender, simply stating that his strength is more in his attacking qualities.
Alberto Moreno is playing a great season for Liverpool,’ Emery is quoted in the Liverpool Echo.
‘And what I have seen is he is playing at a level that he can go back to the Spanish national team.
‘I always see the glass half-full because he has a great offensive ability and I see him as a great offensive player rather than being a poor defender.’
