Cricketer Shahid Afridi left his fans confused when he dodged a question about owning an offshore company on Wednesday.
He was answering questions which came in from fans during a morning show on a private TV channel. “Your fans want to know if you have an offshore company?” asked the host.
“I’ll just be Imran Khan and pretend I don’t know anything. And when things come up later, I’d say that I didn’t know I had an offshore company,” said Afridi laughing at the question. “But no I don’t have an offshore company.”
In the past, Afridi has made politically incorrect statements which have later ended him in trouble. During an India-Pakistan match during the World Twenty20 in India, he said that a lot of people from Kashmir had come in to support Pakistan, a statement which did not go down well with the Indian government. Afridi later had to apologize publicly.
During the interview, Afridi talked at length about his charitable trust the Shahid Afridi Foundation which has just completed construction of a hospital in Kohat. “The hospital has state of the art facilities. My own cousin delivered her baby there.”
Speaking about his two daughters he said that he loved them to bits, but added he was a strict father when it came to rules. “One has to set certain limits for their children. In this age and time, you need to keep a check on your children.”
When asked if he would let his daughter pursue a sport, he said, “Why not? My girls are crazy about cricket. If they want to pursue cricket they can. Or any indoor game like swimming.”
