The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP) in a case regarding loans written off by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and formation of a policy in this respect.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Faisal Arab, heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, advocate Salman Akram Raja, the counsel for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), submitted that SBP’s loan write-off policy had affected the financial institutions of the country.
Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that as it was a policy matter so it was necessary to hear the federal law officer for the stance of the federal government.
The court issued a notice to the AGP and adjourned hearing of the case till the first week of June.
