Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate the Pak-China fiber optic project in Gilgit on Thursday (today). The project will complete in two year s time and will cost around $44 million.
A fiber optic cable 820 kilometres in length will be laid between Rawalpindi to Khunjerab. As a result of the project, both countries will have access to alternative international media whereas telecommunication system within Gilgit-Baltistan is also expected to improve a great deal. The agreement in this regards was signed between both countries in 2007 and has now become part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
The PM will also preside over the meeting of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council and shall take oath from the newly elected members.
