One killed, 17 injured in twin blasts in Peshawar

A constable was killed and 17 other people injured when two remote-controlled bombs detonated one after another in Peshawar’s Mithra area on Wednesday morning.

According to police, unidentified men had placed improvised explosive device (IED) near Professor Dr. Akbar’s residence.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Abdul Majid Marwat said the injured include 11 Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) members, Counter-terrorism Department personnel and police and six civilians.

Superintendent Police (SP) Cantonment Kashif Zulfiqar said the first remote-controlled bomb exploded as a police van was passing by, injuring a policeman and pedestrian. As BDS reached the scene, a second remote-controlled bomb detonated.

The injured have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital while additional police personnel has been deployed in the area.

Around 4.5 kilograms of explosive material was used in the bombs, SSP Abdul Majid Marwat said.

Police cordoned off the area after the attack, however; no arrest has been made yet.
