Co-accused in Dr Asim’s corruption case gets protective bail

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday granted protective pre-arrest bail to Abdul Hameed nominated in Rs 462.5billion corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the PPP leader and former petroleum minister,r Dr Asim Hussain, till 23rd of May 2016.

The group finance director of Ziauddin Hopital, Abdul Hameed, approached the SHC requesting to grant him protective bail. The applicant submitted that he was currently in Dubai and wanted to appear before the court and face the case. But he apprehended his arrest in Pakistan relating to corruption reference of Rs 462.5 billion.

The SHC granted protective bail to the accused against the surety bonds of Rs 3,00,000. Earlier, the accountability court had issued his arrest warrants. According to the investigators, Dr Asim, in collaboration of other accused, illegally curtailed gas to agriculture sector to benefit a particular group associated with the fertilizer industry while misusing his powers as the petroleum minister.
