Bill to enhance punishment for dishonestly issuing cheque introduced in NA

Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2016, increasing punishment for dishonestly issuing a cheque was introduced in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The objective of the bill is to protect the citizens from fraudulent people who issue cheques to defraud their creditors without making arrangements for sufficient funds in their bank accounts.

Under the proposed amendment, the punishment for the offence has been enhanced to a maximum of ten years, but cannot be less than seven years, along with a fine which shall not be less than the amount of the dishonestly-issued cheque and the amount will have to be paid to the complainant.

The house also passed three resolutions on Tuesday. The first resolution was moved by Tahira Aurangzeb urging the government to take immediate steps to complete Bara Kahu Housing Scheme for the federal government employees.

The second resolution moved by Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho called upon the government to take effective steps to improve maternal health facilities in federal hospitals in order to prevent child mortality.

The house also passed a resolution urging the government to take immediate steps to control price-hike in the country.
