The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the bail applications of four accused, facing charges of setting a man ablaze on Tuesday.

The accused, Ghulam Abbas and his relatives Siddique, Shafiq Ahmed and Rafiq, were allegedly involved in setting a man namely Waqas on fire over a family dispute in 2015.

The applicants submitted that they were innocent and were falsely implicated in the case. According to them, Waqas committed suicide and requested the court to grant them bail before arrests.

After going through the arguments, the SHC dismissed the bail applications of all the accused. The trial court had already dismissed the bail, before the accused filed the applications.

Waqas got burned on April 24, 2015 and later died in the hospital. As per his statement given before death, he was set ablaze by his in laws and his relatives when he was sleeping in his house.

“I was sleeping at the roof of my house and awoke suddenly when some people threw oil on me. I jumped from the roof but the accused caught me and threw match stick on me with the intention to kill,” he stated in the First Information Report (FIR).
