Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday sustained his party’s streak of vengeance towards the opposition at the groundbreaking of the Dera Ismail Khan-Hakla Motorway just a day after he failed to impress his opponents in parliament.

Despite saying he would “not discuss his political opponents”, the prime minister fell back into his routine of lashing out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He brought up the party’s recent loss in the Peshawar PK-8 by-polls, saying: The PTI candidate placed third in the polls because “the people of Peshawar have realised there is no Naya Pakistan coming up.”

“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is slipping from your hands,” he said, addressing the PTI. “You will not even have KP in 2018, much less Pakistan.”

Addressing a big public meeting after inaugurating the DI Khan-Hakla motorway and gas supply scheme for all the tehsils of DI Khan, Nawaz questioned the PTI where is new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which the party had promised during last elections and is still talking of making new Pakistan. He said those who failed to make new KP, how they will build a new Pakistan.

The prime minister, who looked happy over the support to his government by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) will build new KP, adding that the province will slip from the grasp of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the 2018 general elections. He said the PML-N won the Peshawar by-election while the PTI could manage only the fourth position and that the miserable failure should be a lesson for the leadership because people have realised that the ruling party in the province is doing nothing for the uplift of the people. He said the PML-N and JUI-F will succeed in establishing a new partnership which will be long lasting.

He said that while the Punjab government has built Metro buses routes in Islamabad, Lahore and Multan, the KP government has failed to launch a similar project for the important city of Peshawar.

He emphasised the importance of DI Khan saying that it links the four provinces of Pakistan and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will also pass through the city making it a hub of economic activity. He said the 260 km motorway project will change the destiny of the people. He assured to build a railway line for DI Khan and instructed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to take steps for starting international flights from the city.

The PM also announced Rs 120 billion for Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC), which on completion will irrigate 300,000 acres of land. He said it is a project of far reaching importance and directed its completion in three months. He said the federal government will provide 65% percent of the CRBC while the KP government will have to contribute 35% of the cost.

He also announced the establishment of an agriculture university in DI Khan, Rs 500 million as development fund for DI Khan district and Rs 770 million for completion of gas supply schemes for all the Tehsils of DI Khan.

The prime minister said Rs 80 million will be provided in the next budget for feasibility study of Tank Sam dam while another feasibility study will be carried out to save the city from floods by constructing protective dykes.

He announced that the load shedding will end by 2018 and electricity will also become cheap.

FAZL THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND NAWAZ:

Maulana Fazl, in his address, assured his party’s support to the prime minister and said a vast majority of people were backing him. He said his party wants peace, stability and strong democracy in Pakistan and the opposition should not go to the extent where democracy is under threat.

He said the prime minister accepted the demand of setting up a commission under chief justice of Pakistan as well as a parliamentary committee to investigate the Panama Leaks but PTI has been backtracking from its demands. He said the cat is now out of the bag as the PTI is being dictated from abroad. He asked Imran Khan why he supported his Jewish ex-brother-in-law against a Muslim of Pakistani origin in London’s mayoral elections.

The JUI-F chief said the opposition is trying to run away because it not the prime minister but the opposition which has thieves in its ranks. He said Imran Khan had requested Nawaz Sharif to allot to him a plot in Lahore to build a house, and wondered how he became so rich that he established an offshore company.

He said he is supporting the prime minister for the cause of democracy. He said it was his dream to make DI Khan a junction of international trade and the implementation of the CPEC will play an important role in this connection.

  1. A petty speech from a petty man. He forgets KPK is not Punjab. Its a culture of proud honest people. Diesel is a cheap minority without any morals.

  2. Disgraceful for the PM to seek support from people lik Maulana Diseal. He is used to lurk behind the Parliament whenever in trouble. Has become Hatim Tai overnight and offering billions to one of the most deprived people ever. Could only be a promise – like do all politicians – but it is a dirty game. Throughout this tenure he is facing ego-related issues – like the trial of Gen Musharraf one – even if the International Loans have swollen thrice compared to Mr 10% era and did not pass the due share of Oil prices reduction to a common man. Has put taxes on kitchen items and the very basic kitchen items are beyond the reach of a common man. Very very disheartening and disgraceful performance.
