Pakistan’s cricket chiefs have started to do their homework regarding the idea of holding this fall’s ‘home’ series against the West Indies in Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has sought the financial estimates from Sri Lanka Cricket to host the West Indies later this year in October.
The series, comprising two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Twenty20, is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but because of the high costs of playing in the UAE, the PCB is mulling Sri Lanka as an alternative venue.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary Mohan de Silva also confirmed the PCB’s approach: “Yes, they have approached us. We will put the budget together and send it back to them. It will depend on whether it is a financially viable option for them to host a series here.”
However the weather could be an issue if the PCB opts for Sri Lanka. The country is usually hit by the monsoon in the months of October and November.
In the aftermath of the Sri Lankan cricket team attack in Lahore that killed seven policemen, including a traffic warden and injured six Sri Lankan team members, Pakistan has been hosting the international cricket teams in the UAE.
