An official of anti-graft body was sent behind bars on Tuesday for allegedly seeking pecuniary advantage from a suspect he was interrogating.

Kamran Janweri, officer of the investigation wing, was caught red-handed while pressurising a suspect and seeking pecuniary advantage from him worth Rs 125,000 to Rs 150,000, a statement issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi said.

In line with its policy of zero tolerance for corruption within the bureau, a case of graft has been registered against the officer and he was put behind bars, it added.

The officer is also being proceeded against under the provisions of NAO 1999.

Janweri was interrogating a suspect government official in a case relating to corruption in taluka municipal administration, Chachro.

On April 9, NAB suspended Karachi’s deputy director after it was found that his wife misused his authority to avenge a personal fight at a salon in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
