NA adopts resolution for improved maternal health facilities in capital

The National Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution that the government should take effective steps to improve the maternal health facilities in the federal hospitals in order to prevent child mortality.

Moving the resolution, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) said Pakistan was signatory to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), but it had the highest rate of mortality.

She said basic health facilities were not available to the women and the government had to frame such rules to improve maternal health facilities.

She also urged the government to allocate maximum funds in the forthcoming budget in this regard.

Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Marriyum Aurangzeb said mother-child health subject was devolved to the provinces after the passage of 18th Amendment.

However, she said that the federal capital could be made a role model for the provincial governments.

Minister of State Sheikh Aftab Ahmed also supported the resolution and said that the government would support all the welfare orientated steps.
