Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to Election Commission of Pakistan for not giving verdict on a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

A single bench of the LHC comprising Justice Shahid Wahid took up for hearing a petition filed by Syed Iqtidar Shah Tuesday.  The petitioner had challenged the election commission for not responding to his petition filed against the PM.

He took the plea in his petition that PM Nawaz Sharif does not fulfill the requirements in article 62 and 63 of the constitution; therefore, he filed application with the EC seeking disqualification of the PM. But the EC has yet to take action on his application.

Nawaz Sharif is no more eligible for the office of PM following the Panama Leaks, the petitioner stated, requesting the court to direct the EC to give decision on his application related to the disqualification of the PM. The court, after hearing the petitioner has issued notice to the election commission.
