Smuggling bid foiled, goods worth Rs70m seized

Anti-smuggling squads of Islamabad Customs Collectorate with the assistance of Chakwal police foiled a smuggling bid near Balkasar and seized goods worth Rs 70 million on Sunday.

The officials intercepted two loaded trailers coming from Peshawar on a tip-off and searched the vehicles. The people in the vehicles failed to produce any import documents of the foreign origin goods. Police arrested four on the spot.

339 LED TVs, 179 air conditioners, 1000 kg silk cloth, 3960 kg auto parts, 4000 cigarette packets, 3575 kg bicycle parts, 1600 kg welding rod, 58 outdoor unit of AC and 1100 kg polyester cloth were seized.

The smuggled goods have been seized under the Customs Act, 1969. FIR has also been lodged against the accused persons. Further investigation is underway.
