The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to upgrade the Marghzaar Zoo and to further add one elephant and two lions to it for public entertainment.
This was decided during a meeting held at the CDA Headquarters which was attended by Member Administration Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Environment Sanaulah Aman and senior officers of the relevant formations of the authority.
Sanaullah Aman apprised the meeting that in line with the directions of Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal, the Environment Wing is working on up grading and development plan of the Marghzar Zoo. He added that under the up-gradation plan, more birds and animal species would also be added to the zoo. In this context, initially to two lions and one elephant would be added on immediate basis.
He further briefed about the negotiations with competent forum of Sri Lankan government which are underway and it is expected that the Sri Lankan government will provide an elephant for Marghzar Zoo very soon. Member environment informed that the authority is taking consolidated steps for provision of suitable environment conditions for different species of birds and animals.
Amer Ali Ahmed said that the zoo facilities would also be upgraded in line with modern standards to further facilitate the public visiting this zoo.
Member Environment, Sanaulla Aman said that veterinary doctor of Zoo has been directed to take proper care of food and health of animals. He said that zoo administration has been directed to submit recommendations for further improvement in the facilities being provided at Marghazaar Zoo which would implemented after approval of Chairman to make Maghazar Zoo a state-of-the-art facility.
