6 cops, one civilian injured during operation against land grabbers in Nankana

At least six policemen and a civilian got injured during clash as Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) launched an anti-encroachment drive in Nankana on Saturday, a private news channel reported. The operation was launched to vacate eight canals of land.

Agitated locals gathered against the anti-encroachment operation in a village near Kot Sant Ram bypass and started protesting against ETPB.

As police tried to disperse the mob, angry protesters pelted them with stones, injuring six policemen. In reaction, a civilian was injured as police resorted to baton charge and aerial firing.

The operation was suspended as police and Auqaf workers were outnumbered by the protesters.

Protesters also damaged Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board Siddiq-ul-Farooq’s vehicle.

Later, an angry mob set Evacuee Trust Property Board’s office blaze. Property worth millions and other records were gutted.

Locals stated that no one stopped them when they were constructing the buildings.

On the other hand, Siddiqul Farooq has alleged that PML-N MPA Zulqarnain is backing land mafia in the area.
