Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that the promotion of education is the joint responsibility of government and the society. He said that a huge sum of Rs. 14 billion is being allocated for school councils in the next fiscal year.
He said that school councils showing good performance will be able to get sums of Rs. 60000 to 240000 for the development of educational institutions.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of Home School Education Project started with the assistance of USAID Programme at Lahore Press Club on Friday. Members Punjab Assembly Saadia Sohail Rana, Dr. Nosheen and Ms. Shaneela also spoke on the occasion.
Rana Mashhood said that in civilised societies, government, opposition and citizens are on one page for the promotion of education. He said that government has proved its education-friendly attitude by allocating 27 per cent of the total budget to the education sector in the current fiscal year while this amount is being increased up to 30 per cent in the next budget.
He said that enrollment targets are being successfully achieved while dropout rate of students has become negligible due to the effective measures of the government. He said that enrollment of 80000 children working on brick kilns in schools is a historic step of the government and proves its commitment to education sector.
He said that ratio of the missing facilities in schools will be reduced to zero per cent during the next fiscal year and that all schools will be provided with basic facilities like science and computer labs, boundary walls, drinking water, electricity, furniture and required number of teachers.
Rana Mashhood said that cooperation of education-friendly well-to-do persons of the local area will be achieved with the help of school councils for the construction of new classrooms in schools. He said that administration of the concerned areas will also extend help in this noble mission.
He said that the implementation of Education Reforms Roadmap will result in enrollment of every child between the age of five and nine years in school by 2018.
