After asking the assembled crowd at the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf rally in Bannu about the state of schools, the police and general corruption in Bannu and being disappointed by their answers, party chairman Imran Khan asked the crowd whether they had ever been in love.

“Have you ever been in love, people of Bannu,” he asked. “Have you ever experienced the searing agony that comes with it? Trust me, I know.”

“It takes a lot of getting along and sticking with a commitment, even when you think things are not going right,” he said.

“You don’t just give up on the things you love and have made up a commitment to; you stick with it and try to make things work,” said the twice-divorced father of three.

“Though Khan’s statement on this issue is correct in general,” said Dr Kamal Ajmal, professor of psychology at QAU and a leading couples’ therapist, “there are still instances where relationships are toxic and need to be finished off for the betterment of everyone involved.”
