The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) apprehended three suspects allegedly affiliated with an outlawed group from Karachi’s Mehmoodabad area on Friday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Naimatullah, Shamsuddin and Arifullah.
Extortion slips and cash were seized from possession of suspects.
Shamsuddin is said to be a close aide of Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz and has also been involved in the attacks on security forces in Islamabad.
Police have said that extortion money was sent to Afghanistan.
According to the officials, Rs 3.5 million were recently transferred to the neighbouring country.
