Aitzaz fears ‘some elements’ will ‘ruin’ PM Sharif

Leader of Opposition in Senate Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said on Thursday he fears “some elements” within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will “ruin” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami in his Channel 24 talk show DNA, Aitzaz asserted that Prime Minister Sharif was answerable to parliament and he must clear his position on charges levelled in the Panama Papers by coming to the House that elected him.

Aitzaz, to a question, opined that PM Sharif must answer all the seven questions released by the opposition.

Aitzaz also recalled that he along with Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah had advised the premier to call a joint session of parliament when his government was in danger during the days of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s sit-in.

“Starting from Ayub Khan till Pervez Musharraf, I have been part of major political movements in this country. Whenever a movement begins, it becomes hard for the ruler to stop it,” the PPP leader said as he asked Nawaz Sharif “to do something to stop this movement”.

To another question, he said if he was corrupt why the government did not initiate an inquiry against him as all the institutions were under its sway.

Aitzaz, who chaired the meeting of opposition parties which drafted the questionnaire for PM Sharif, said that the opposition would name its negotiating team to discuss the Terms of References (TORs) after the government announced its bloc.
