PM leaves for Tajikistan to attend launch of CASA-1000 power project

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for Tajikistan Wednesday morning to attend the launch ceremony of CASA-1000 Power Project.

During the visit, the prime minister will discuss with Tajik leadership issues of bilateral interest, including trade, energy and defence cooperation.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will also exchange views on matters relating to regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The leaders from participating countries and other stakeholders are expected to attend the launch ceremony.

Under CASA-1000 Project, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will supply 1000 MW of electricity to Pakistan and 300 MW to Afghanistan during the summer season.

The CASA-1000 Project is the first of its kind that will link Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the electricity grid.

The project which will be completed by 2018 will go a long way in regional integration.

  1. Ah! So that's what its all about. Engaging foreign contractors. Foreign contracts. Traveling allowance and DA, which every Government officer loves. Government departments have to invent ways to open avenues of foreign travel. Electricity from Kyrgyz Republic. What a joke!
