4.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Swat Valley

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake hit Swat and surrounding areas on Thursday.

According to the meteorological department, depth of the earthquake was 90 kilometres with the epicentre at Pak-Afghan-Tajikistan border area.

The tumbler created panic but no loss of life and property has yet been reported as it was a mild earthquake.

People left their houses and workplaces into open spaces fearing a strong earthquake.

Pakistan is located in one of the most earthquake-prone areas with high vulnerability to earthquakes.

Geographically, the country lies in the collision zone of the India tectonic plate to the south and the Eurasian plate to the north.
