KP govt to organise archaeological moot

Under the patronage of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, a three-day International moot is being organised entitled “Recent discoveries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and their impact on the history of the region.” This conference will be held from May 13.

Eminent archeologists and researchers from Pakistan and various foreign countries will meet to share their latest discoveries, with an objective to transform the archeological excavations towards digitalisation and modernisation for a better preservation and conservation of heritage and historic places.

Ambassador of Republic of Korea in Pakistan Jong Hwan Song, Director British Council in Islamabad Kevin McLavel along with KP Minister for Archaeology, Museums, Sports and Youth Affairs Mehmood Khan will address the inaugural session of the international event, while KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the conference.

Director Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Abdul Samad said: “Arrangements have been finalised to organise the conference in the most benefiting manner, which aims to share the recent discoveries from the archeological excavations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

He said more than 70 research papers will be presented at the conference to highlight the latest archaeological discoveries and their characteristics. Archaeologists, researchers, students, federal and provincial departments of Archeology across the country, foreign delegations from US, UK, Germany, Italy, Korea and Afghanistan will also attended the conference, he added.

Dr Samad said the conference will present new archeological findings and examine them in the light of ancient scroll records, the scriptures and other historical sources. He said the participants will also highlight the rich archaeological heritage and culture of KP during the event.

KP Minister for Archeology, Sports, and Youth Affairs Mehmood Khan while commenting on the event said that the provincial government is committed to preserve and conserve the heritage, adding that a comprehensive policy is being evolved in this regard. He mentioned the recently passed KP Antiquity Act 2016 and said that this legislation aimed to adopt scientific conservation, restoration, protection and promotion of the cultural heritage of KP.
