Karachi rickshaw driver Aslam picks ‘singing’ as profession on Lata Mangeshkar’s wish

Karachi’s rickshaw driver Aslam who got fame through his singing video on Facebook has quit driving his vehicle on the wish of Indian legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

Aslam has now again started his singing training at home on a harmonium and always begin the session from the same ‘thumri’ song that he sang in the famed video clip.

“I was amazed when Lata Mangeshkar praised my voice and skills and from that moment I have quit driving the rickshaw,” he said.

The 55-year-old rickshaw driver got recognition when some person uploaded his clip on social media in which he was singing Ghulam Ali’s thumri ‘Yaad Piya Ki Aaye’.

As the ‘thumri’ sung by Master Aslam went viral on social media, many were surprised to know that the singer drove an auto-rickshaw in Karachi.

A few hours after the clip was uploaded, Indian legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar in Mumbai shared it on her Facebook page.

She also wrote that she was stunned to hear this talented singer and wishes for him to stand in front of the microphone and not ride a rickshaw.

Aslam says that even though he has got popularity but if he also starts getting work, it would be great.

He has also decided not to sell his rickshaw as he considers it as his lucky charm.

Not only Aslam’s family but his neighbours also praise his singing skills and frequently request him to sing a song for them.

Master Aslam is not new to the limelight. In 1993, he took part in a TV programme and reached the grand finale of the talent show. He had also lent his vocals to some Pakistani films and movies but then the process was hindered after he fell ill.
