Islamabad airport project to be completed by year-end, says CAA

The New Islamabad International Airport Project would be completed by December 25 this year, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) informed Senate’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, on Tuesday.

The committee, which met here at the old PIPS Office was chaired by Senator Talha Mehmood and attended by members, Shahi Syed, Hidayatullah, Mir Muhammad Yousaf Badini, Najma Hameed, Kalsoom Parveen, Rahila Magsi, Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash and Osman Saifullah Khan.

The committee was informed that the new airport operationalisation process would take further six to eight months.

The officials said that the airport would start its operations from July 30, 2017.

The committee said that further extension would not be given without prior approval of the committee.

The officials further said that the land acquisition process of Ramma Dam was completed; adding the acquired land for the dam was handed over to the contractor on March 16.

The officials said that the land acquisition for Kassana Dam had also started.

The committee recommended to the CAA to increase the number of flights to Northern Areas.

The committee also directed the CAA to take strict action against the corrupt officials of the PIA selling tickets in black at Gilgit-Baltistan Airport.

  1. Couple of days ago, it was reported in the media that a big flaw is found in the new Airport. Report said that both runways are only 200 ft away. They should have a distance of one mile between them. Even then project goes ahead and near completion ???

  2. Very strange. But all projects including power and gas are not to be completed before 2018. I am sure Perv will correct this mistake by his information ministry.
