IHC grants protective bail to Gillani, his accomplice till May 23

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted protective bail of former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party leader Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani in five cases while his accomplice Muhammad Zubair in three cases for 12 days.

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Noor-ul-Haq Qureshi conducted the hearing of the case. The counsels of the petitioners Farooq H Naik and Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri appeared before the court.

Farooq H Naik in his arguments informed the court that the trial court of Karachi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants of both the accused and that FIA was conducting raids at various places for their arrests adding that both the accused want to appear before the anti-corruption court and prayed to grant the protective bail to them.

After hearing the arguments of the counsel of petitioners, the court has granted protective bail of both accused till May 23 and ordered them to submit surety bond worth Rs 100000 each.

Corruption cases worth Rs 500 million had been filed against former PM Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and former minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim (late).

Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, talking to media said that he had always respected the courts therefore he has preferred to ensure his presence before the court instead of meeting his recovered son Syed Ali Haider Gillani in Lahore

He further said that Afghanistan ambassador had informed him about the recovery of his adducted son.
