Sindh Inspector General (IG) Police AD Khawaja admitted before the Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior that 1,800 illegal recruitments were made in the police and further investigation was underway in this regard.

The meeting of the standing committee was led by Chairman Syed Awais Shah. The Sindh IG police and other officials belonging to the police department attended the meeting. The IG admitted that illegal recruitments were made but he rejected the information regarding procurement of fuel to be used in helicopters or planes. He, however, admited that irregularities were commited in purchasing of fuel to be used in cars.

The IG requested the committee to increase the budget of the police, adding that the investigation of the officers involved in illegal recruitments was being conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Standing Committee Chairman Syed Awais Shah issued show-cause notice to the Sukkur deputy inspector general (DIG) police for not attending the meeting.
