YDA protest enters the eighth day, OPDs remain closed in Balochistan

Outpatient departments (OPDs) are shut in government hospitals across the province on the eighth consecutive day as Young Doctors Association (YDA) continues to protest for its demands, local media reported on Tuesday.

Patients are not getting timely treatment while those who are coming from far-flung areas are forced to return without any medical assistance.

The association launched protests for non-provision of salaries. Medics have stated that the government has not issued their salaries until the filing of this report. The association has also demanded arrests of criminals who tortured the protesters.

YDA has vowed to continue the strike until salaries are issued.

On the other hand, a medic named Irshad Ahmed Khosa who was abducted on May 9 has not been recovered yet.

The organisation has called a meeting today to discuss course-of-action against the alleged slack administration over fellow’s abduction.

Last month, YDA’s protest had claimed lives of four patients in Sargodha District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) as emergency and outpatient department were shut.

Four patients, under treatment in the emergency ward, died due to lack of in-time treatment. A heavy contingent of police reached the hospital and took several persons in custody.
