Suspect reveals Parveen Rehman killed over land dispute

Raheem Swati, a prime suspect in the murder of social activist, Perween Rehman has revealed on Tuesday that she was killed over land grabbing dispute.

In a video, Raheem Swati’s confessed that Perween was murdered with the help of a Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander.

Swati said that Rehman refused to allow the land to be used for the construction of a Judo Karate club.

Swati said that a person named Ayaz made him talk to a TTP commander, Musa who said that Perween was already on the banned outfit’s hit list. He stated that a few days later Musa called him and told that ‘it was done’.

Swati was a former councillor belonging to Awami National Party’s (ANP) and district secretary information. He revealed that political parties used to benefit off language-based riots in Orangi and Katti Pahari areas of Karachi. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and ANP carried out politics over bodies, he alleged.

Two miscreants named, Amjad and Imran opened fire at a bus in Qasba Colony amid riots which claimed two lives while several were wounded, he added.

However, police are proceeding with Swati’s interrogation. The key criminal was arrested last week in Karachi’s Manghopir area. The court gave the culprit in police’s custody for 14 days.

Orangi Pilot Project’s director was gunned down on March 23, 2013, by unidentified motorcyclists near Banaras Flyover.

The project aims at providing solutions to grassroots in solving their local issues including sanitation and provision of potable water. The project is run by non-government organisations (NGOs).
