The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday disposed of a contempt petition against federal ombudsperson in a protection against harassment of women at workplace by Justice (r) Yasmin Abbasey for tendering unconditional apology.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the contempt petition filed by Salim Baig and Khurram Baig against the ombudsperson.

The petitioners had submitted that the LHC had stopped proceedings pending with the Federal Ombudsperson against them on 3 November 2015. But the ombudsperson violated the orders by continuing proceedings and issuing orders on 6 November 2015, despite updating her of the court’s restraining orders, they added.

The court repeatedly summoned the ombudsperson to explain reasons for violating the court orders, but she failed to appear. At this, the court issued bailable arrest warrants and later non-bailable arrest warrants for her.

The court also summoned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad to explain reasons for not producing the Ombudsperson despite issuance of her non-bailable arrest warrants, on the last hearing.

On Monday, the court conducted the case proceedings in chamber, wherein the Federal Ombudsperson, Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf and Inspector General of Police Islambad appeared.

The court disposed of the contempt petition and recalled non-bailable arrest warrants issued for the ombudsperson after she tendered an unconditional apology.
