The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), in a major operation near the Sutlej River, claimed to have arrested five militants of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).
A CTD spokesman said, on a tip-off teams rushed to railway’s Empress Bridge over Sutlej and arrested Usman, Nauman, Abdul Hameed, Skindar Ilyas and Mohibullah.
The spokesman claimed the alleged militants had planned a major sabotage activity in which they wanted to damage the railways bridge on the main Karachi-Lahore section. The officials teams recovered five improvised explosives devices (IEDs) along with ammunition and arms. Civil defence officer Ms Fatimah said the bomb disposal squad rushed to the scene and defused the five IEDs.
