As many as 11 more peacocks died in Tharparkar desert during the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 187 this year.

The wildlife department officials said that six peacocks died in Mithi and five in Diplo that were suffering from undetacted diseases. The Sindh wildlife department had dispatched a team of doctors for treatment of ailing peacocks in the area, he said. The doctors will take blood samples of peacocks for proper treatment, he further commented. The wild peacocks had been facing starvation and lack of safe drinking water due to delayed monsoon rains.

Currently, around 30,000 wild peacocks exist in Thar Desert but their number is dwindling because of poaching and mysterious deaths.

  1. The reasons for death is same as of the Children – starvation and lack of drinking water and facilities. The CM Sind has ordered a team of Vets to find out reasons for the death of this beautiful bird which is as dear to the locals as their children. They even mourn the death like a family member and observe same rites to burn them like their humans. Wonder why the CM did not send a Team of Doctors to help the dying children. " They are dying of Allah's will" says Mr Chandiao , the special advisor to Sind CM.
