Rabbani urges Commonwealth nations to make efforts for overcoming challenges

Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani urged the Commonwealth nations to make collective efforts for overcoming the challenges of poverty, illiteracy and terrorism by boosting mutual cooperation and learning.

The Senate chairman expressed these views at a reception organised in honor of the secretary general of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and participants of the three-day parliamentary staff development workshop for Asia and Southeast Asia.

Rabbani emphasised that nations belonging to Asia need to look inward and build on the Asian dream.

He further said that the region is passing through a great deal of trouble and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association provides an opportunity to learn from one another’s experiences and exchange ideas.

“The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is an essential requirement in the present day polity where we share common values and a shared heritage,” Rabbani further added.

He expressed confidence in the dynamic leadership of the new Secretary General, Akbar Khan.

“The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will be playing a more active role in bringing parliaments together and making collective endeavors for overcoming common challenges,” Rabbani concluded.
