PIA’s German COO working without security clearance: report

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Bernd Hildenbrand is yet to be given security clearance by the security agencies even though he has been working in the country since February 2016, a private news channel reported on Saturday.
According to the report, Bernd is a German national and he has also served in an Indian airline as vice president from 1994 to 1996.
One of the four main conditions of appointments is security clearance and police verification from appropriate authority for this senior post of PIA, which has been overlooked in this matter.
His appointment still has to pass security clearance by Intelligence Bureau and the Special Branch, however it could not be availed nonetheless several reminders sent by the PIA management.
A PIA spokesperson told the channel that Bernd has been hired on the basis of technical qualification in the field of aviation and diversified experience of airline industry.
