Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) women wing is reportedly confused over participation in the rally on May 9 after women harassment incident took place in Lahore.

According to local media, the women wing is yet to take a decision about taking part in Peshawar rally.

Women members of National Assembly (NA) have demanded political parties to ensure the protection of participants in rallies.

Several women were harassed and molested while participating in Imran Khan’s address on the Mall last Sunday.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) women politicians had criticised PTI chief for eyeing leadership of the country when he could not control the situation in a rally. On the other hand, PTI’s women politicians held a counter-press conference and stated that such a case never surfaced prior to the rally in Lahore, PML-N’s centre.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf launched a first information report (FIR) against unidentified culprits while the government lodged a case at Civil Lines Police Station.

PTI cancelled its public rally in Faisalabad, fearing similar incidents. Party chief Imran Khan alleged that the suspects who attacked women during the rally in Islamabad appeared to be goons let loose by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Khan also said that he had lost trust in the Punjab Police for failing to protect women participants of PTI’s Lahore rally.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah had vowed that law enforcement agencies would apprehend criminals using CCTV footages however, no arrest has been made so far nearly a week after the incident.

The party announced rallies in Peshawar on May 9 and in Bannu on May 11. It should be noted here that Imran Khan is going to address a rally in Bannu after Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif delivered a rather aggressive speech there this week.

  1. What greatness lies in harassing women at a political rally irrespective of who is organising it. It is the action of sick minds . It deserves universal condemnation. Nearly 50% of pakistani population is women. Have they no right to feel safe in the public sphere.? We should hang our heads in shame.
