Pleading innocent after a NAB raid recovered Rs730 million from his house, suspended Balochistan Finance Secretary Mushtaq Raisani claimed that the amount was his own, hard earned money that he had earned after giving maths tuitions to the kids of the neighbourhood and beyond.
“How else can you explain all this petty cash lying around,” he asked. “A lot of this money was just given to me a couple of days ago, as I have a grace period for the payment of fees till the 6th of the month and then I expel the student from my academy.”
When asked about how it could amount to this much, he replied, “Well, I teach FA/FSc students and A Levels students so there is always great demand for math tuitions,” he said. “Then, there are the engineering college calculus and linear algebra courses. Trust me, there is great demand. I made all this money fair and square.”
When asked, NAB Balochistan authorities told reporters that they are reviewing the case. “On the one hand, it seems implausible that he made this money from giving maths tuitions in the evening,” said Qayyum Magsi, lead investigator, NAB, Baluchistan. “But on the other hand, he is saying that he did, so it must be true. Why would he lie?”
